Free DAT To AVI Converter has been designed with the purpose of converting the MPEG files contained in Video CDs and Super-Video CDs (.DAT files) into AVI video files that you can play - among other options - in your favorite portable devices. Regrettably, this tool has failed to recognize any of the DAT files used during the review process.
The program's interface is simple enough to be easy to use for all potential users, and the conversion functionality promised in the developer's site is attractive enough to make it a good option for those who want to "upgrade" their VCD collection and enjoy their DAT videos in other devices other than a computer or a standalone video player. However, after various unsuccessful attempts, and taking into account the large number of buttons and links provided to "Get more free tools" and to try any of the many conversion tools advertised in it, one has the impression that the sole purpose of this minimalist interface (and the tool itself, for that matter) is to lure you to try and - eventually - buy Total Video Converter, the flagship tool of the program's developer. I am sorry to say that I cannot find any other explanation to the fact that each of the half dozen DAT files used in checking this tool failed to be recognized, while showing the same error message - "Cannot open this file. Try advanced tool?"
